Abstract: q-characters are a mainstay of the representation theory of quantum affine algebras. We generalize this theory to all quantum loop algebras, that underlie arbitrary Kac-Moody Lie algebras instead of just semisimple Lie algebras, as well as introduce new techniques for the computation of q-characters.
